MICHAEL BINGAMAN
Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS, SCCC)
As a native Texan, I never would’ve guessed that I would end up working for U.S. Ski & Snowboard, but life has a funny way of surprising you like that! As a high schooler, I played a multitude of sports and was decent (but not great) at them all, which is where I learned the importance and fun of the training process. I attended Texas A&M University for both my Bachelors and Masters degrees. In 2010, I transitioned to coaching CrossFit and Olympic weightlifting, and a few years later founded the Texas A&M Weightlifting team and coached national level weightlifters. As a grad student, I worked full-time with A&M’s baseball team (ranked #1 in the country), which gave me a wealth of experience coaching top-tier collegiate athletes. Eventually, I landed in Park City, Utah and was hired by U.S. Ski & Snowboard as an Athletic Development Coordinator.
I’ve jokingly told friends that I’m actually just a “camp counselor with a high performance directive,” and there’s some truth to that. My favorite part about coaching is the opportunity I have to build relationships, mentor, and impact lives for the better. I love the training process as well, and enjoy equipping and empowering athletes to chase after their dreams. My goal in training is to prepare my athletes to handle with ease anything that sport or life can throw at them. At the end of the day, I want people to know they’re valued, cared for, and infinitely capable of anything they set their minds to if they’re willing to work for it. In my free time, I’ve taken a liking to flying planes and racing mountain bikes, as they’ve fed my appetite for adventure and exploration.
Good to be Here!
I’m excited to be a part of the Dig Deep program because I understand how big of an impact this training and educational material can have. I would’ve loved to have access to content like this as a kid, and secretly, I’m a little jealous these athletes are getting such a head start on training, nutrition, and psychology. This information is incredibly powerful, and you’ll be able to carry this and use it for your entire life. It’ll lead to better training and better competition, but even more than that, it’ll equip athletes to live a healthier, happier, more active, more adventurous, and more fulfilling life.
My Motto:
Love your life or change it.
My Advice to Jr Athletes:
Training is a lifelong endeavor. Be great in this moment, focus on the details and on what you can do TODAY, and trust that it’ll all add up!
